Coconut oil has been used as a folk medicine for many centuries. It is currently enjoying its renewed popularity due to the amazing list of benefits that it provides to our body. Baking soda has more benefits than only making desserts. It has numerous uses when it comes to beauty. Baking soda can be used for absorbing excess oil from your face. It is a natural cleanser, bleacher, and exfoliant agent. It balances the pH level and keeps body odor at bay. Its antibacterial properties prevent breakouts on the skin and help in drying out the pimples.

Using baking soda and coconut oil can give you some exceptional results. Here are some homemade remedies using both ingredients.

1.Baking soda and coconut oil for skin whitening

Melanin is a natural pigment that is responsible for giving color to your skin. When more melanin is produced, our skin gets darker. This can be caused by excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, or changes in hormone levels during pregnancy.

Coconut oil is a natural agent that evens your overall skin tone and makes it appear lighter. Baking soda has excellent exfoliating and cleansing properties. It removes the dead skin cells and impurities from our skin.

Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda and coconut oil. You can also add some drops of lemon juice to it. Apply the paste and massage your face in a circular motion for 2 minutes. Leave the paste for a few more minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Use this remedy 2-3 times a week for a few months as coconut oil takes some time to give effective results.

 2.Baking soda and coconut oil for teeth

Sometimes our teeth can look yellower than usual. The reason behind this can be aging, enamel thinning, smoking, or a faulty diet. But don’t worry, this coconut oil and baking soda remedy can help in whitening your teeth.

Baking soda is salty and alkaline which helps reduce tooth stains. Coconut oil can fight harmful bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.

To prepare this paste, take 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, melted oil is preferred. Brush your teeth with this paste for about two minutes. Rinse your mouth with warm water.

Use this paste two to three times per week for a few months to brighten your teeth.

3.Baking soda and coconut oil for underarms

Lack of exfoliation, deodorants, increased melanin, and shaving can be the reason for darkened underarms.

Baking soda is used as an exfoliant. It makes the appearance of the skin surface brighter, smoother, and lighter. It also improves the odor of our body. While coconut oil contains vitamin E which acts as a natural skin lightening agent.

Mix some amount of coconut oil to 1 tablespoon of baking soda so that it makes a thick paste. Apply it on your armpits and wash off with lukewarm water after it dries out. You can use this remedy thrice a week for better results.

4.Baking soda and coconut oil for dandruff

Hormone imbalance, harsh hair products, nutrient deficiency, and weather extremes can lead to dandruff. It might not be harmful but it can cause itchiness which can lead to scratching, which ultimately leads to hair loss.

Coconut oil and baking soda, both have antifungal properties. Using this paste, you can reduce the amount of dandruff and create a cleaner environment for your scalp.

Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of honey. You can also add a little water to it for easy application. Apply it evenly on your scalp and leave it for 20-30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

5.Baking soda and coconut oil for acne

Use of oily or grease personal care products, fluctuating hormone levels, and stress can cause acne. It is particularly common in teenagers but can occur at any age.

Baking soda can help with acne by absorbing the excess oil from your face and coconut oil contains lauric acid that can help reduce the bacteria present. It is not recommended to use baking soda regularly as it can cause dryness and irritation.

Mix 1 tablespoon of both the ingredients and apply it to your face. Rub the paste gently and massage your face to accelerate the blood flow. Wash off within one hour. Use this paste twice a week for a few months to achieve a smooth toned and scar-free face.

6.Baking soda and coconut oil for diaper rash

Babies have sensitive skin and infrequent diaper changes can lead to diaper rash. It usually appears as a red irritation on the baby’s bottom or genetic areas of the skin.

Coconut oil can reduce irritation, skin inflammation, and it’s a safe option for them as it moisturizes their skin. Baking soda balances the pH level and prevents fungal growth that causes diaper rash.

Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda in warm water for a bath. Wash the irritated area with this water but don’t use any soap. After 10 minutes, dry your baby off. Put ½ teaspoon of coconut oil on your clean hands and rub gently in the infected area. Put on a fresh diaper on your baby.
